There's a humbling when you're around legacy leaders, especially those of a volunteer kind. Within the CASB network, legacy leadership is honored with McGuffey Awards. These peer affirmations happen around the state, each a potential model, each a mentoring moment, each a celebration of maturity.
Here's one that's been influencing me:
“Mr. Smith” [a little anonymity to protect the humble] is an outstanding board president who values a quality education for all students. Whatever it takes to lead “A School of Quality,” Mr. Smith supports. He expects a championship effort from all people, especially himself. Mr. Smith works at developing trusting relationships among other board members, staff and patrons in the community. He is respected by others because of his integrity, honesty and willingness to make difficult decisions. Mr. Smith is a model board member who is always prepared on all issues that are being addressed. He has a unique way of involving others and making them a part of the solution. Student achievement is top priority in the school district, and one of the driving factors behind the improvement in the district’s student achievement is the support of the board.
Sooo...
- What legacy are you intent on leaving?
- What words do you hope your peers will say at your McGuffy moment?
- What legacy is your governing team determined to leave?
- Specifically, what are your next learning/improvement steps to advance your legacy?
