Maturity, mentoring & mayhem...

A great time was had by all at the BigConvening's EdCafe on "What I've Learned About Great Governing," a rolling conversation using video and visual triggers from the above PowerPoint (to view, go here). Tough to beat:  Veterans mentoring new members and new members bringing fresh insights and questions to the veterans.

While this FlipSnack version doesn't show the videos, here are some of the conversational keys:
  • Maturity and mentoring - crucial for good-to-great governing
  • Mr. Mayhem (from the All State Insurance commercials) - the opposite of excellence
  • We expect all the leaders' actions in our schools to be good-to-great...we hope all these actions of ING are providing excellence...
  • What is our unique ING...governING
  • What quality of governing will be our legacy? How would you describe it?
  • While the BIG responsibility for candidate development is with the local team (modeling, mentoring, guiding...), the CASB network has a wealth of stories, supports and tips throughout the season. Stay tuned!
  • Let's talk about what it takes to mature actions common to great governing teams...
  • Knowing, trusting, respecting
  • Supporting, developing, healthily challenging
  • Chosing wisely, maturely, together
  • Staying framed and focused on the wildly important through policy leadership
  • Leading the learning
  • We concluded with a wide ranging discussion around Peter Lencioni's "Five Dysfunctions of Teams"
