Friday night menu...

Saturday appreciation for last night's memorable conversation in a busy Walsenburg restaurant!

The menu: Two veterans, five (count 'em) new members, and "the one employee" sharing insights, hopes and ideas for becoming and sustaining a good-to-great BOARD of EDUCATION.

The Huerfano governing team found strong consensus around...
  • being a model of excellence for the sake of the kids
  • leading through policy,
  • building trust and understanding (internally and externally)
  • focusing on the wildly important
  • building and resourcing excellence in the learning system

Lasting memories:  Richness as team members caught the momentum of sharing, peer to peer; constant expressions of honor, listening and learning; insights gained in a "three whys" exercise around the question, "Why do we so shortchange boards of education in social studies classes?"

On the checkered table: CASB's Leadership WORKbook, 20-page toolkit for workshop teams, QuickTake briefing from the last improvement step, great governing one-pager from the CASB convention, iPad for quick viewing of blog insights, and "big-blank" white cards for brainstorming and appraising.
